While women and minorities place value in mentoring, they are less likely to be matched with executives. Why? This could be because mentors want to be matched with people with similar backgrounds and interests. When management teams lack ethnic, cultural, and gender diversity, opportunities are limited for women and minorities. Research shows that diverse mentoring programs can increase the prevalence of ethnic minorities in management positions resulting in a direct impact on the bottom line. Organizations in the top quartile for ethnic, cultural, and gender diversity within their executive teams are more likely to outperform their competitors by 33 percent and 21 percent, respectively.
