DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes as a Stepping Stone to Net Zero

March 28, 2019 • 1 pm (ET)

The DOE Zero Energy Ready Home program is the most rigorous federal label for high performance new homes, combining energy efficiency and high-performance features to create the home of the future - today.  Zero Energy Ready Homes (ZERH) serve as natural tier on the continuum from a minimum energy code home, up to ENERGY STAR Homes, then to Zero Energy Ready, and finally on to net zero energy.  ZERH are not just ultra-efficient. These homes include critical protections for the well being of the residents including comprehensive IAQ provisions, combustion safety, comfort, and moisture protection. These protections are proven solutions which also reduce builder risk. And to differentiate ZERH builders, the ZERH program provides highly effective marketing resources which resonate with homebuyers and let them easily understand what’s in it for them.

In this 1-hour session you’ll hear the builder, utility, and DOE perspective on Zero Energy Ready Homes and how this benchmark can be a forward-looking addition to a utility’s program portfolio. We’ll cover the minimum specifications for DOE ZERH; associated costs and benefits; the co-requisite nature of ENERGY STAR Homes, DOE ZERH, and Passive House Institute US; and the uptake of the program by utilities and other efficiency initiatives.
