Corporate Energy Manager--Aqua America
|Position Start Date
Responsible for energy management including the procurement of energy, its efficient usage and billing accuracy. Interacts with personnel from energy suppliers, distributors and Aqua America (AA) assuring that AA’s benefits from the most cost-effective supply and utilization of energy.
When requested arrange for new electric and gas services, changes in existing services and the termination of services with the appropriate local distributor and generator. Pursue the improvement of service reliability where required.
Investigate energy saving opportunities at major AA facilities (or useful asset cohorts) in cooperation with operating & production managers, including audit participation. Savings could be obtained by adding or changing equipment, and/or changing operating procedures. Improvement opportunities may be obtained by investigating, negotiating and implementing strategies with energy services providers.
Review energy billing from both suppliers and distributors to assure accuracy of billing and negotiate settlement of all billing disputes. Request change of rates when determined that change is in AA’s best interest. Assist Accounts Payable with billing concerns.
Assist Accounting with the preparation of annual AA’s operating budgets by forecasting the anticipated expenditures for electricity and gas.
Analyze additional energy-related business opportunities for AA’s senior management to consider.
Review and reporting of all energy-related matters on major acquisitions during due-diligence.
Assist Operating Divisions with the development and maintenance of databases of all electricity services.
Track Solar Renewable Energy Credits (SRECs) generation by Aqua alternate energy projects and monitor SREC sale opportunities on various trading exchanges.
Conduct and/or oversee power factor and pump efficiency studies & report generation at various Aqua Facilities.
Prepare studies and reports to guide Company management in overarching corporate planning for future system power purchases, electric expense reduction strategies, de-regulation opportunities and alternate energy development. Strategies shall include Demand Response and Peaking programs offered by the PJM and other regional grids.
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or relevant technical field, with a minimum of eight (8) years of related energy management experience; or a comparable combination of education and experience. Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation and computer skills are required.
