Analyzing Behavioral Conservation Impacts of Prepay Programs Brown Bag

January 12, 2017  •  1:00 pm (ET)

Prepay programs are being offered by an increasing number of utilities in North America as a voluntary alternative for customers to pay utility bills.  Our research has shown that prepay programs result in a significant drop in energy consumption (8 percent or more on average) for those customers who choose prepaid energy regardless of geography or demographics.  This session will offer an overview of trends in prepay programs, discuss the methodology and issues connected to tracking behavioral impacts, and finally, provide findings from a prepay program in action at Arizona Public Service (APS).
