Energy Saving Opportunities from Innovative New Window Treatments

February 1, 2018 • 1pm (ET)

Efficiency programs have long sought a viable alternative to window replacement because incentives for windows are generally not cost-effective. This session will focus on educating participants about an emerging efficiency measure that is currently installed in virtually every home in the United States—window attachments, including blinds, shades, shutters, and storm panels, which can offer a cost-effective alternative to window replacement. The session will explain the new rating and certification program through the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)-funded Attachments Energy Rating Council (AERC), the AERC residential product label, and the certified products website. AERC members, including Lara Bonn from Efficiency Vermont and Katie Cort from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, will discuss their experiences making the case for deemed savings for low-emissivity storm panels in their respective territories, including the energy savings data they used to support their cases and consumer survey results.  This webinar gives the efficiency community the chance to learn more about this promising measure and opportunities for integrating it into their programs.

Key Takeaways:

  • Understand the wide variety of window attachment solutions in the market today.
  • Learn about the metrics used to assess window attachment performance and how to compare the performance of different attachment types using the product label and the AERC Certified Products website.
  • Learn what information is needed to make the case for claiming deemed savings to regulators.
