Step Up and Power Down Program

Winner of 2016 AESP Energy Award in Nonresidential Marketing and Communications

Speaker: Jillian Rich, Pacific Gas and Electric

This initiative recognizes that everyone in a building can play a significant role in reducing energy waste, from an operator in the mechanical room, to a green team member, or an executive in the board room. Using insights from behavioral science, Step Up and Power Down brings innovative marketing and communication tools to engage each of these audiences. The commercial portion of this initiative launched in San Francisco and San José in June of 2015 and already has more than 350 businesses enrolled and committed to reducing energy waste. The energy savings are being counted toward community energy savings goals of 25 million kWh in San José, and 20 million kWh in San Francisco.

 

Trickle Up Program

Winner of the 2016 AESP Energy Award in Customer Engagement

Speaker: Ward Eames, NTC Corporate

A large energy services provider partnered with NTC during the academic year to create an innovative educational programming module designed to empower children and their parents to become the driving force behind household residential energy savings through the implementation of energy efficiency kits. NTC employed its Trickle Up customer engagement system in 1,742 schools. They centered on school tours featuring live in-school theatre performances on energy efficiency - with the ultimate goal of reaching those responsible for managing household utilities: the parents. The program generated measurable reduction in home energy usage through innovative programs and supplemental technology, resulting in nearly $94M in kWh saved!
